49ers Select LaMichael James

LaMichael James is a 5-foot-9, 185-pound runningback out of Oregon. He ran a 4.37 40 yard dash. The 49ers decided to select him with their second round pick. This is a curious pick, considering the 49ers aren't exactly hurting at running back. They have Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter and Anthony Dixon, and they recently added free-agents Brandon Jacobs and Rock Cartwright. But James has the ability to vie for some playing time immediately. He's fully capable of contributing in the passing game and the return game, as well as out of the backfield.
James rushed for 5,082 yards and 53 touchdowns on 771 career carries in three seasons with the Ducks. Coach Harbaugh is well aware of his abilities, having to face him twice while Harbaugh was the coach at Stanford. He had 49 carries for 382 yards and four TDs in those two games against Jim Harbaugh's Stanford team before Harbaugh jumped to the Niners last year.
