David Akers quits Twitter after death threat

It’s no wonder many players are beginning to think social media simply isn’t worth it.

For 49ers kicker David Akers, a death threat was enough to make him get out of the Twitter game.
According to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, Akers has deleted his Twitter account, shortly after retweeting a death threat.

“YOU F—-OT IF YOU MISS ONE MORE FIELD GOAL YOU ABOUT TO GET YOUR ENTIRE LIFE ENDED,” the tweet from @RIP_FreeLaddin read.

Since then, the tweeter in question has claimed he was hacked (the Adderall defense of Twitter) and deleted the tweet.

Akers set a record for field goals made last year, but is 25-of-35 this year. The 49ers have brought in kickers for tryouts, but have insisted they’re not looking to make a change now.

And exactly none of that matters, when it comes to players who try to interact with fans, or simply move through life without being threatened.
