49ers Vs Rams Full Game

Jim Harbaugh says “more action” coming for Jon Baldwin

49ers wide receiver Jon Baldwin’s regular-season debut Thursday passed muster with coach Jim Harbaugh, who suggested the 2011 first-round pick could see increased playing time.

“There’ll be more action for him,” Harbaugh said Friday, according to remarks distributed by the club.

Baldwin caught both of the passes thrown his way in the 49ers’ 35-11 win at St. Louis on Thursday night, gaining 19 yards. He played 16 of the club’s 69 offensive snaps.

Quinton Patton suffers broken foot

The 49ers had high hopes for rookie receiver Quinton Patton, but this season is not going according to plan.

Patton caught his first pass of the season on Thursday night against the Rams, but the 49ers have announced that Patton broke a metatarsal bone in his his foot on the play.

Donte Whitner: NFL just wants me to let receivers catch TD passes

For the second week in a row, safety Donte Whitner is lashing out at the NFL over a penalty he received for a hit to an opposing player.

Whitner was called for unnecessary roughness for a hit on Rams wide receiver Chris Givens on Thursday, and on Friday Whitner said that penalty was a ridiculous call when all he was trying to do was knock the ball out of a receiver’s hands, as that receiver was leaping for a pass in the end zone.

Donte Whitner: Any big hit in the NFL is automatically a flag

San Francisco safety Donte Whitner was penalized on the first play of Sunday’s loss to the Colts. He wasn’t happy about it.

“It was a bad call,” Whitner told CSNBayArea.com. “I guess it was a big hit. Any big hit now in the National Football League is automatically a flag.”

With Asomugha uncertain, 49ers sign Morris

With a short week and injuries at the position, the 49ers made a move for cornerback depth.

According to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, the 49ers promoted Darryl Morris to the active roster.

The undrafted rookie could become necessary if Nnamdi Asomugha’s knee keeps him from playing Thursday against the Rams.

They also signed pass-rusher De’Aundre Reed to the practice squad. They need bodies there with the rehab absence of Aldon Smith.

Jon Baldwin could get chance with Niners offense this week

The 49ers have scored 10 points in the last two weeks, one of several issues plaguing the defending NFC champions during their 1-2 start to the 2013 season.

Coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday that the blame for the offensive woes don’t fall on any one position in particular because everyone has been struggling. That includes the wide receivers. Anquan Boldin has 18 catches, Kyle Williams has nine and the other receivers that have been active have combined to catch just one passes over the first three weeks.

Aldon Smith is en route to rehab facility

Last night, Peter King reported that 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith will enter a rehab facility early this week.

Per a league source, Smith already is on his way.

It’s unclear where Smith is headed, but he’s flying to the facility at which he’ll spend the next several weeks.

Aldon Smith will enter in-patient facility to undergo rehab

As expected, 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith will undergo rehab for substance abuse.

Peter King of TheMMQB.com and Football Night in America reports that Smith will enter an in-patient facility early this week.

Which explains why his locker is empty.  Which also explains why the team has announced he won’t be playing on Thursday night against the Rams.

Many in-patient rehab programs last 28 days.  It’s unclear how long Smith will be away from the team.

Report: Frank Gore angry at Jim Harbaugh

Frank Gore was one of the few 49ers who played well in today’s loss to the Colts, running 11 times for 82 yards and catching two passes for 21 yards. Which leads to the question: Why did Gore only get 13 touches?

That may be the question Gore wanted answered when, according to Kevin Lynch of the San Francisco Chronicle, he was angry at coach Jim Harbaugh at the end of the game.

No weed was in Aldon Smith’s car

It’s been all bad news over the past few days for 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith.  Here’s a little good news.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that marijuana was not found in Smith’s car when he was arrested for DUI on Friday.

Mortensen cites a police officer as the source.  Which would appear to be a fairly authoritative source.

Smith still have plenty of other problems.  But a rap for marijuana possession currently isn’t one of them.

Aldon Smith could end up in rehab this week

As the 49ers, the NFL, and linebacker Aldon Smith try to figure out how to proceed after Smith’s recent DUI arrest, the outcome could be something other than a suspension.

But it could have the same result.

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that Smith could enter a rehab facility as soon as this week.  Glazer says people close to Smith are pushing him to do it.

Aldon Smith’s playing time will hinge on his mindset

Yes, 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith will play on Sunday.  But he may not play much.

Per a league source, Smith’s playing time for Sunday will hinge on his mindset.  If it seems that his Friday arrest for DUI and reportedly marijuana possession is affecting him, he could play sparingly.  If it isn’t, he could play more.

Add possession of marijuana to Aldon Smith’s list

As the news stacks up regarding this morning’s DUI arrest for 49ers outside linebacker, there’s plenty of reason to wonder if he’ll play this week.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, Aldon Smith was also charged with possession of marijuana in addition to suspicion of DUI. He was arrested at 7 a.m., which means he was ostensibly on his way to work when he crashed his car.

Aldon Smith arrested for suspicion of DUI

One of the most talented pass-rushers in the NFL continues to have problems with all the stuff that isn’t football.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, 49ers outside linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested at 7 a.m. this morning on suspicion of DUI, according to the San Jose Police.

Harbaugh gets a chance at birthday revenge on Carroll

In a Sunday Night Football game that contains plenty of intriguing story lines, here’s one that needs to be mentioned.

Last December, in the second-to-last game of the regular season, the Seahawks blew out the 49ers in Seattle on December 23rd.  It was coach Jim Harbaugh’s 49th birthday.

Now, in the second game of the new regular season, the two teams get together again in Seattle.  On Pete Carroll’s birthday.

Ahmad Brooks fined for hitting Rodgers, Boldin fined for block

Clay Matthews wasn’t the only one fined for an illegal hit during the Packers-49ers game.

In fact, 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks and receiver Anquan Boldin incurred fines that totaled more than the $15,000 Matthews was fined for his hit out of bounds on 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

49ers’ Alex Boone would like to punch Clay Matthews in the face

The NFL fined Packers linebacker Clay Matthews $15,000 hitting 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, but 49ers guard Alex Boone would have preferred handing down a different punishment.

Boone said that if he had his druthers, he would have taken care of Matthews by coming with some knuckles.

Brandon Jacobs: 49ers were “scared” to cut him

Giants running back Brandon Jacobs said that his year with the 49ers was a “curse,” and that they effectively admitted they didn’t want to have to face him again.

The 49ers suspended him after his social media attack, which complained about playing time, the kind of thing you do when you’re trying to get cut.

Niners roll dice with IR return designation

Starting last year, every team acquired the ability to put one player per year on injured reserve with the ability to return to play after eight weeks.

This year, the 49ers have used theirs on linebacker Nick Moody, a rookie sixth-round draft pick.  Moody, who has a hand injury, will be eligible to return to action in Week 10, against the Panthers.

Staley to Kaepernick after Matthews hit: “No one is [expletive] hitting you late”

On Sunday, a week’s worth of words from Packers linebacker Clay Matthews became action, when Matthews hit 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick well out of bounds after a play.

The move drew a flag and launched a fracas, which included 49ers tackle Joe Staley coming to Kaepernick’s defense and drawing a penalty that the league later admitted was a mistake.

After the incident, Staley and Kaepernick had a discussion.  The audio will be played tonight, on the season debut of NBCSN’s NFL Turning Point.

Anquan Boldin might be "old" and "expensive", and "not much of a runner".

But the guy knows how to make a first impression.

Russell Wilson says eyebrow bet with Colin Kaepernick “not real serious”

The San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks will square off this week on Sunday Night Football on NBC in one of the premier matchups of the early season schedule. The teams aren’t particularly fond of each other. The head coaches don’t like each other and both teams are among the favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl in February.

An extra layer of intrigue was added as the starting quarterback for each team supposedly entered into a bet where the loser would have to shave off an eyebrow if they don’t earn the victory Sunday night. However, that bet may not be completely set in stone after all.

Jim Harbaugh to “tough guy” Matthews: “Come with some knuckles”

A day after Packers linebacker Clay Matthews drilled 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick to set off a melee on the sideline, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh ripped Matthews for the play.

“A clothesline to the neck area when our quarterback is six, seven feet out of bounds . . . that certainly was a cheap shot,” Harbaugh said.

NFL now says Packers, not 49ers, benefited from officials’ mistake

Referee Bill Leavy admitted after Sunday’s Packers-49ers game that his crew botched a call after Green Bay’s Clay Matthews and San Francisco’s Joe Staley both drew personal fouls, and that the officials’ mistake benefited the 49ers.

But that’s not quite right.

According to multiple published reports, San Francisco police say a man fell to his death at Candlestick Park on Sunday.

Vernon Davis: Kaepernick and I are on a different level this season

Randy Moss is a member of the FOX Sports team this year, but he was a wide receiver for the 49ers in 2012 and he shared some thoughts about two of his former teammates during a conference call earlier this week.

Moss said that he didn’t think quarterback Colin Kaepernick and tight end Vernon Davis developed a “rapport” during the 2012 season, something that Davis wasn’t all that shy about saying once Kaepernick took over as the team’s quarterback. He had six catches in six games at the end of the season, but things perked up in the playoffs.

Aldon Smith, Delanie Walker sued again

Another day, another lawsuit alleging that 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith and former 49ers (now Titans) tight end Delanie Walker created a situation that resulted in a shooting.

OK, the lawsuits weren’t actually filed on consecutive days.  Still, Smith and Walker have now been sued separately by each of the two men who allegedly were shot at a for-pay house party Smith hosted in June 2012.

NFL confirms: Read-option QBs can be hit like runners

Players on the Packers have been talking about hitting 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, and San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh is not happy about that. But the NFL has some bad news for Harbaugh: Taking hits comes with the territory of being a read-option quarterback.

In an officiating video distributed to the media, NFL Vice President of Officiating Dean Blandino says that read-option quarterbacks can be hit like runners, even if they don’t have the ball. If a quarterback who handed off or pitched the ball is still carrying out a fake in a running posture, he can be tackled the same way he would be if he still had the ball.

Asomugha tries to buy jersey No. 24 for $24,000

Nnamdi Asomugha has made tens of millions of dollars in his NFL career. Anthony Dixon has made about $1 million. When Asomugha was signed by the 49ers, he had his eye on the No. 24 jersey which already belonged to Dixon. Asomugha figured he could just buy Dixon off.

Looks like it didn’t work.

Harbaugh raises concerns over talk of hitting Kaepernick

Last year, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll accused Jim Harbaugh of seeking help from the officials by raising questions about the limits of permissible contact against receivers.  Packers coach Mike McCarthy may now accuse Harbaugh of doing the same thing regarding the limits of permissible contact against quarterbacks.

On multiple occasions this week, Green Bay linebacker Clay Matthews has talked about the importance of hitting a mobile quarterback, something the Steelers did successfully last year in containing Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III.

Jim Harbaugh thinks Patrick Willis will play Sunday

It’s been just about a month since 49ers linebacker had surgery to repair a slight fracture in his right hand, an injury that kept him out of the entire preseason.

Patrick Willis has resumed practicing and coach Jim Harbaugh said at his press conference Wednesday that he thinks Willis will be on the field when the Packers roll into Candlestick to kick off the 2013 season for both clubs. Harbaugh said that it was possible that Willis would wear a cast on the hand to protect it from further injury, something that shouldn’t cause him much trouble.

49ers hoping Chris Harper can be replacement for Delanie Walker

Former Seattle Seahawks fourth-round draft pick Chris Harper isn’t just changing teams this week, he’s changing positions as well.

Harper was released by Seattle during roster cuts over the weekend and signed to the Seahawks’ practice squad. However, the San Francisco 49ers elected to sign Harper to their active roster and lured him away from their division rival. Now the 49ers have a new role in mind for Harper that has him doing things he’s never done in his football career.

Aldon Smith, Delanie Walker named in lawsuit over alleged shooting

49ers linebacker Aldon Smith and Titans tight end Delanie Walker face a lawsuit in California.

According to CSNBayArea.com, a man named Ronndale Esporlas contends that he was shot while attending a party hosted by Smith.

Smith, per the lawsuit, hosted a party at his home on June 29, 2012, at a cover charge of $10 and a per-drink cost of $5.

49ers place seven players on the practice squad

The 49ers have filed seven of their eight practice squad spots, keeping guys who were in camp with them already.

The list includes running back Jewel Hampton, wide receiver Chuck Jacobs, offensive tackle Carter Bykowski, guard Patrick Omameh, nose tackle Mike Purcell, cornerback Darryl Morris and safety Michael Thomas.

Hampton spent the last five weeks of last season on their active roster, and led the team in preseason rushing. He’ll get plenty of work in the next few weeks, with running back/returner LaMichael James out with a knee injury.

49ers Trade Cam Johnson

The 49ers had a surplus of linebackers, and continue to turn them into future surplus draft picks.

The Colts announced they acquired Cam Johnson from the 49ers for a conditional draft pick.
