49ers place Mario Manningham on injured reserve

The 49ers offense has found some stronger footing during the team’s five-game winning streak, but they’ll have to keep it going without wide receiver Mario Manningham.

Manningham was placed on injured reserve Friday, shortly after coach Jim Harbaugh announced that he would miss the season finale against the Cardinals. Harbaugh said, via Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group, that Manningham would consult with doctors about his knee and “do what’s in best interest of his career.”

Ahmad Brooks wins appeal on Drew Brees hit

Even though the NFL claimed the call on the field was the “absolutely correct call,”  it’s at least a free one.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks won his appeal of his $15,750 fine for hitting Saints quarterback Drew Brees a month ago.

Harbaugh wants Phil Dawson back with 49ers next year

Jim Harbaugh isn’t taking the consistency of kicker Phil Dawson for granted.

After suffering the struggles of David Akers a season ago, Harbaugh is thrilled with the job Dawson has done for the team this season.

However, Dawson was only signed to a one-year deal this season. It led Harbaugh to make a public plea for Dawson to stick with the team beyond this season.

49ers place Bruce Miller on injured reserve, sign Will Tukuafu

Jim Harbaugh said earlier this week that the shoulder injury suffered by fullback Bruce Miller last Sunday “didn’t look good” and the 49ers made a move confirming that assessment on Wednesday.

Miller has been placed on injured reserve, ending a season that saw him become a useful piece of the offense as both a receiver and a blocker. With Michael Crabtree and Mario Manningham back in action, the 49ers will likely miss him more in the latter role in the coming weeks.

Crabtree declares it’s a “new day, new game”

The last time the 49ers played the Seahawks, they didn’t have receiver Michael Crabtree.  And the Niners lost, 29-3.
This time, Crabtree is back.  And he thinks it will lead to an improved outcome for San Francisco.

Joe Staley feeling better, plans to play this week

The 49ers should have a key part back for Sunday’s rematch with the Seahawks, as left tackle Joe Staley said his knee injury was not as serious as it first appeared.

During his weekly radio show on 95.7 The Game (via Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com), Staley said his right knee is feeling better, and he plans to play Sunday.

Joe Staley returns to practice

The 49ers might not have to shuffle their offensive line as much as initially feared, as left tackle Joe Staley returned to the practice field Thursday.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, Staley took part in drills and seemed to be moving well during the portion of practice open to the media.

Quinton Patton comes off 49ers injury report

The 49ers spent most of the season scrambling to find enough wide receivers to fill out their roster, which makes it a bit funny to see that they may wind up with too many receivers for the available spots as the year winds down.

Mario Manningham returned from his knee injury last month and Michael Crabtree returned from his Achilles injury last week to give the unit a much needed shot in the arm. Now rookie Quinton Patton is practicing in full and totally off the injury report with the broken foot that kept him sidelined from Week Four until Wednesday.
