Jed York: Hold me responsible if 49ers don’t win Super Bowls

San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York says after the departure of Jim Harbaugh that the franchise’s only focus is to win Super Bowls, and that York himself should be held accountable by the fans if the 49ers fall short.

49ers, Harbaugh mutually agree to part ways

As expected, the Jim Harbaugh era has ended in San Francisco.

The team has announced that Harbaugh and the franchise have mutually agreed to part ways after four years together.

Trent Baalke hopes Sunday isn’t Frank Gore’s final game with the 49ers

There aren’t too many people who think Jim Harbaugh will coach another game with the 49ers after they face the Cardinals on Sunday and the coach won’t be the only person making his final appearance with the organization.

Turnover is a constant on NFL rosters and a fair number of current 49ers will be former 49ers when the 2015 season gets underway. Running back Frank Gore could be on that list.

49ers cut Ray McDonald over rape investigation

The San Francisco 49ers have released defensive lineman Ray McDonald, hours after news broke that police searched his home in connection with an investigation into a sexual assault.

General Manager Trent Baalke said the 49ers made the decision to terminate McDonald’s contract because of a pattern of behavior that the team finds unacceptable.

Report: Jets, Raiders are expected to inquire about Harbaugh

In the immediate aftermath of Thursday night’s 19-3 home loss to the Seahawks, there seemed to be an outside chance that the simmering dysfunction in San Francisco would hit full boil before the end of the season.

Three days later, it appears that nothing will change until the season ends.  At that point, plenty could change.

Trent Baalke’s daughter rips Greg Roman on Twitter

Tick.  Tick.  Tick.

The boom is coming; it’s just a matter of time.  And the countdown arguably accelerated after Thursday night’s loss, when the owner’s decision to take to Twitter was matched by the daughter of 49ers G.M. Trent Baalke.  Said Cassie Baalke, a college freshman, about the team’s offensive coordinator:  “Greg Roman can take a hike. The 49ers don’t want you no more.”

Ahmad Brooks benched himself against Giants

Ahmad Brooks wasn't benched on Sunday. Rather, he benched himself.

A source told FOX Sports that Brooks was upset with the coaches' decision to take reps away from him and give them to Aldon Smith and Aaron Lynch during the team's 16-10 victory over the New York Giants. The source said Brooks told the coaches and his teammates he believed he should be playing every snap and didn't care to be part of a rotation, so he pulled himself from the game.

Report: A “real possibility” NaVorro Bowman doesn’t play this year

The 49ers have until Tuesday to decide whether to activate linebacker NaVorro Bowman from the physically unable to perform list.

But it might be a moot point.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, a source says there’s a “real possibility” Bowman won’t play again this year after blowing out his knee last season.

Aldon Smith returns to the 49ers

Starting Sunday against the Giants in New York, Aldon Smith will have a chance to build on his uncanny streak of 42 sacks in 43 career regular-season games.

The NFL officially has reinstated Smith, following a nine-game suspension for violations of the personal conduct policy and the substance abuse policy.

49ers place Patrick Willis on season ending injured reserve

The 49ers have officially brought linebacker Patrick Willis’s season to an end.

Shortly after reports on Tuesday indicated that Willis would need season-ending toe surgery, the 49ers announced it.

NaVorro Bowman still experiencing pain in knee

Patrick Willis is headed to injured reserve because of the toe injury that’s kept him out of the lineup recently and it doesn’t look like they’ll have immediate help from NaVorro Bowman to help replace him in the lineup.

Ed Werder of ESPN reports that he spoke to Bowman on Sunday and that the linebacker is still experiencing pain in his surgically repaired left knee. Bowman is on the Physically Unable to Perform list after tearing his ACL and MCL in January’s NFC Championship Game.

Today, that decision can be justified.

49ers GM Trent Baalke: Some things are broken with 49ers

On Monday, former 49ers quarterback Steve Young said that he thought the current 49ers team was “broken” in the wake of their 13-10 loss to the Rams in Week Nine.

Young got no argument from the team’s general manager. During his weekly radio show on 95.7 The Game, Trent Baalke agreed that “there are some things broken” with the 4-4 team.

Kaepernick: I know I scored a touchdown

Colin Kaepernick says his last play in the 49ers’ loss to the Rams on Sunday should have been ruled a touchdown, not a fumble.

With seconds remaining and the 49ers trailing 13-10, Kaepernick tried to score a touchdown on a quarterback sneak. But the ball came loose, and when the officials unpiled the players, Rams linebacker James Laurinaitis was holding the ball. The ruling on the field was a fumble recovered by the Rams, and no replays definitively showed whether the ball crossed the goal line before Kaepernick lost it.

Report: Marcus Lattimore plans to retire from the NFL

Marcus Lattimore, the talented running back who never played a professional game after suffering a devastating knee injury in college, has reportedly decided to call it a career.

Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that Lattimore is expected to retire as he continues to deal with knee issues.

Glenn Dorsey returns to practice

The 49ers defense got an old friend back in the mix at practice on Monday.

Defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey took part in practice for the first time since being place on injured reserve with the designation to return because of a biceps tear he suffered in the preseason.

NaVorro Bowman is apparently faster than ever

When doctors rebuilt the left knee 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman blew out last year in the playoffs, they apparently used some Steve Austin technology.

Because according to 49ers General Manager Trent Baalke, Bowman is faster than ever.

Colin Kaepernick: “I don’t know what I’m being fined for”

Colin Kaepernick was given a 15-yard penalty and a fine of $11,025 after an official said he used a racial slur on the field. Kaepernick insisted he had said no such thing, appealed the fine, and today won the appeal — sort of.

On appeal, Kaepernick had his fine cut in half. But Kaepernick now wants to know why he was fined at all, as the appeal officer apparently believes him that he didn’t use a slur.

NFL: No evidence Colin Kaepernick used racial slur, fine cut in half

The NFL found no evidence that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick used a racial slur to Chicago Bears defensive end Lamarr Houston, which Kaepernick has maintained all along.

The NFL reduced the fine from $11,000 to $5,500, the Sacramento Bee and other outlets reported, after an arbitrator found no proof that Kaepernick used a racial slur. Kaepernick used “general profanity," which is why half of the fine was held up (which makes no sense because if "general profanity" is to be fined by the NFL going forward, the entire league might be broke by Thanksgiving, but apparently the NFL didn't want to let him totally off the hook).

Report: Patrick Willis unlikely to play this week with sprained toe

Patrick Willis injured a toe on Monday night against the Rams.  It apparently will keep him from playing on Sunday night against the Broncos.

Per a league source, Willis has a sprained toe.  It’s currently unlikely that Willis will play this weekend.

Willis will be evaluated by the same specialist who has been treating Bengals receiver A.J. Green’s toe ligament problem.

With NaVorro Bowman still out following a torn ACL suffered in the 2013 playoffs, the 49ers may have to face the Broncos without two of best linebackers in the league.

49ers expect NaVorro Bowman back later rather than sooner

The 49ers have won two straight games to improve to 3-2, but it doesn’t look like they’ll have linebacker NaVorro Bowman back to help in the push for a playoff spot in the near future.

Bowman is eligible to come off the Physically Unable to Perform list next week, but defensive coordinator Vic Fangio indicated the linebacker’s return from the torn ACL he suffered in the NFC Championship Game. Fangio said that Bowman hadn’t hit any “roadblocks” in his rehab, but he can only recover so quickly.

Players Coming out In Numbers To Support Jim Harbaugh

Vernon Davis says he’ll be fine after suffering back spasms

The 49ers got tight end Vernon Davis back in the lineup for the start of their game against the Eagles after he missed Week Three, but Davis wasn’t able to make it all the way through the contest.

Davis was listed as questionable heading into the game with an ankle injury, but that wasn’t the injury that forced him out of the 26-21 Niners victory. Davis left after getting hit in the back by Eagles cornerback Bradley Fletcher following a catch and had to be helped to the back in what looked to be a fair amount of pain.

Jim Harbaugh: Deion Sanders comments “a bunch of crap”

NFL Network analyst Deion Sanders did a cannonball into the media pool yesterday, claiming that 49ers players want coach Jim Harbaugh out.

Harbaugh responded today by saying that pool is full of something other than water.

Jim Harbaugh thinks home field advantage “could be improved”

Jed York: "Ray McDonald is not Ray Rice"

Ray Rice was cut by the Ravens and suspended indefinitely by the NFL for his domestic violence incident. So why is Ray McDonald still playing for the 49ers after his own domestic violence arrest?

Because, according to 49ers CEO Jed York, the situations are not the same.

49ers intend to honor due process on Ray McDonald

On one hand, the 49ers won’t tolerate domestic violence.  On the other hand, the 49ers apparently won’t take action against a player accused of domestic violence prematurely.

“Well, right now it’s a legal matter,” G.M. Trent Baalke told reporters on Monday, via Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News. “There’s such a thing called due process, and we intend on letting that play out.”

Jim Harbaugh says he won’t keep a player guilty of domestic violence

When 49ers Ray McDonald was arrested for felony domestic violence this weekend, he became the first test case for the league’s new, tougher policy on the matter.

But he’ll also test his own coach’s long-held attitude toward players who put their hands on women.

During his regular appearance on KNBR this morning, Harbaugh made it clear he would not tolerate behavior such that McDonald has been accused of.

Alex Boone expected to report to 49ers with reworked contract

49ers guard Alex Boone held himself out of the team’s offseason activities, training camp and the preseason in hopes of landing a new contract with the team.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, that holdout is about to come to an end. Schefter reports that Boone is expected to report to the 49ers in the next 24 hours.

49ers re-sign Lawrence Okoye and six others to practice squad

The 49ers have re-signed seven players they waived Saturday to the practice squad, the team said Sunday.

Second-year defensive lineman Lawrence Okoye, the star British discus thrower turned football player, is among those added to the Niners’ practice squad after being released Saturday.

Ray McDonald arrested for domestic violence

When it comes to the NFL’s new policy on domestic violence, many of the details won’t be known until a player or two (or more) end up caught in the gears of its application.

The first player to be caught in the gears of the application of the new domestic violence policy apparently will be 49ers defensive end Ray McDonald.

49ers Cut Adam Snyder, C.J. Spillman, and 14 others

The 49ers were running short on the offensive line anyway, with the holdout of guard Alex Boone.
But they’re even younger and thinner there now.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, the 49ers are cutting veteran offensive lineman Adam Snyder.

Aldon Smith hit with nine-game suspension

The NFL made a statement yesterday against domestic violence, and today’s is about repeat offenders.

The NFL announced that 49ers outside linebacker Aldon Smith was suspended for nine games for violating the NFL’s policies on substance abuse and personal conduct.

Colin Kaepernick still trying to figure Stevie Johnson out

New 49ers receiver Stevie Johnson hasn’t done much of anything this preseason, catching just two passes for 11 yards in three games. Colin Kaepernick says that’s because he can’t always find Johnson on the field.

According to Kaepernick, Johnson doesn’t always run routes the way Kaepernick is expecting, and that means Kaepernick doesn’t necessarily see Johnson get open.

Kaepernick to play in preseason finale

Maybe the fourth week of the preseason isn’t so worthless, after all.

In recent years, the final preseason game for each team has become a bench-clearing exercise aimed at helping the coaching staff and front office trim the roster from 75 to 53.  As the 49ers’ starting offense struggles to find a rhythm, starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick is expected to play in the preseason finale.

Niners place Lattimore on NFI, Bowman on PUP

The efforts of the 49ers to trim the roster down to 75 players included the shelving of a couple of highly-recognizable names for at least the first six weeks of the season.

Linebacker NaVorro Bowman has been placed on the reserve/PUP list and running back Marcus Lattimore has landed on reserve/NFI.  Both are recovering from torn ACLs; Bowman’s happened in the 2013 NFC title game and Lattimore’s occurred during the 2012 college football season.

49ers replacing turf at Levi’s Stadium

After being forced to move practice out of Levi’s Stadium due to poor turf conditions on Wednesday, the San Francisco 49ers have decided to replace the playing surface altogether ahead of Sunday’s preseason game with the San Diego Chargers.

The 49ers cut short a public practice open to fans at their brand new stadium on Wednesday after several players continued to slip on the loose surface.

Report: 49ers don’t want to trade holdout guard Alex Boone

Considering the 49ers either did or did not offer holdout guard Alex Boone a new deal that would pay him like a top-12 guard in the NFL, his situation is still very much in limbo.

Thus, teams are calling to ask about his availability.

But according to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, the 49ers are not interested in trading Boone.

Report: 49ers move practice after footing problems on Levi’s Stadium turf

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh reportedly stopped Wednesday’s practice at Levi’s Stadium and moved the workout to the club’s practice field after the club had footing problems on the stadium’s playing surface.

Kaepernick’s 2013 foot injury was more serious than he let on

For much of last season, Colin Kaepernick’s foot put him on the 49ers’ injury report. But Kaepernick always played through it, and he said at the time that it wasn’t a big deal, joking that it was just a hangnail. Now Kaepernick says it was much more serious than that.

In fact, Kaepernick told the Sacramento Bee that he actually suffered a chipped bone on his forefoot and a ruptured capsule in the ball of his foot during a Week Two game against the Seahawks. Kaepernick said that slowed him down for most of the rest of the season.
