49ers give waive receiver Jon Baldwin

In 2011, the Chiefs spent a first-round pick on receiver Jonathan Baldwin, a talented but enigmatic prospect from Pitt.  After a pair of subpar seasons, the Chiefs shipped him to San Francisco for receiver A.J. Jenkins, a 2012 first-round bust.

On Sunday, the 49ers decided to move on from Baldwin.

He was waived to create room for receiver L’Damian Washington, who was claimed off waivers from the Cowboys.

In his only season with the 49ers, Baldwin appeared in seven games with one start.  He caught three passes for 28 yards.  For his career, Baldwin caught 44 passes for 607 yards and a touchdown.
Because Baldwin has fewer than four seasons, he’ll be required to pass through waivers.  If he goes unclaimed, Baldwin will become a free agent.
