Kaepernick on extension: You need to balance your money with need to keep other players

Colin Kaepernick stoked the flames of his team’s rivalry with the Seahawks on Thursday with some pointed comments about Richard Sherman’s actions at the end of the NFC Championship Game, but that wasn’t the only topic on the board as he made the media rounds.

Kaepernick was also asked about the possibility of a contract extension as he enters the final year of the deal he signed after being drafted in the second round of the 2011 draft. Kaepernick said that he wants to be paid on a level commensurate with his place in the league, but understands that any money that goes to him can’t go to other players that will help the 49ers beat the Seahawks and other teams in the future.

Colin Kaepernick unloads on Richard Sherman

The normally reserved Colin Kaepernick had plenty to say today, sending some pointed words at Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman.

The last we saw Kaepernick, he was throwing a game-ending interception in the NFC Championship Game, which was followed by Richard Sherman making the choke sign in his direction and then starting the post-game interview rant heard ’round the world.

Brandon Jacobs calls Jim Harbaugh a "bitch"

Running back Brandon Jacobs has retired from the NFL so he doesn’t have to worry about remaining in the good graces of anyone who might think about hiring him in the future.

Or anyone who hired him in the past, for that matter. Jacobs spent a frustrating 2012 season as a member of the 49ers that saw him spend most of his time on the inactive list before getting suspended for conduct detrimental to the team. Jacobs, who was released at the start of the 49ers’ playoff run and returned to the Giants in 2013, had tweeted something about hating your boss before his suspension.

Frank Gore to have minor surgery

NaVorro Bowman and  Mike Iupati weren’t the only 49ers to leave Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks with injuries.

Coach Jim Harbaugh announced at a press conference on Tuesday that Frank Gore broke his right ring finger during the game. Harbaugh said that he wasn’t aware that Gore suffered an injury until after the game and that it wasn’t the reason why Gore wasn’t on the field for the Niners’ final offensive plays of the game.

Torn ACL and MCL for NaVorro Bowman

The 49ers feared that linebacker NaVorro Bowman injured both his ACL and MCL against the Seahawks on Sunday and those fears have been realized.

Bowman tore both ligaments when wide receiver Jermaine Kearse fell on his leg while Bowman was stopping Kearse short of the end zone. The ball came loose and fell into Bowman’s arms, but the Seahawks retained possession because the officials made the wrong call on the field and the vagaries of the NFL rule book are such that some obvious officiating blunders can’t be reviewed by rule.

Boldin hints that he plans to stay with the 49ers?

Anquan Boldin will be a free agent in less than two months.  But it sounds like he plans to re-sign in San Francisco.

“Thank you @49ers fans for embracing my family and I during our first year in San Francisco,” Boldin said on Twitter.  “Your support this year was amazing.”

Key words:  “First year.”  Which implies there will be a second year.

Anthony Davis Calls City of Green Bay a "Sh*thole"

As the 49ers prepare to face the Packers in Green Bay, thanks to a league rule that forces wild-card teams with superior records to visit division winners with lesser won-loss-tie marks, San Francisco offensive lineman Anthony Davis won’t be leaving his heart in Wisconsin.

NaVorro Bowman picks off NFC defensive player of the month

One of the lasting images from the 2013 season is the one of NaVorro Bowman closing down Candlestick Park with an 89-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of a 34-24 victory over the Falcons clinched a playoff spot for the 49ers.

That big moment and excellent play in five December wins for the 49ers made Bowman the choice as the final NFC defensive player of the month for the 2013 season. Bowman added another interception in the Week 17 victory over the Cardinals and also forced a fumble as the 49ers assured themselves the fifth seed over the Saints.
