Sources think that the 49ers will try to move up

The 49ers have eleven draft picks and not nearly enough needs to find roster spots for all, or even half,of them. So it’s reasonable to assume that the 49ers might attempt to make a move up on draft day.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen was the original to articulate the speculation of a San Francisco move last week, suggesting that they possibly are going to be trying to get receiver Mike Evans.

Baalke on Aldon Smith: You don’t just open a door and toss people out of it

Last week, we reported that the 49ers were not going to release linebacker Aldon Smith as a result of his latest brush with the law and that the team had not decided whether or not to pick up the option on his contract for the 2015 season.

On Friday, General Manager Trent Baalke said pretty much the same thing. Baalke said that the organization is disappointed in Smith, but that disappointment isn’t going to lead the team to part ways with him.

Report: Ravens, 49ers plan joint practice before preseason game

The Harbaugh brothers are scheduled to face one another in a rematch of Super Bowl XLVII in the exhibition season this summer and it sounds like they’ve figured out a way to spend some time together ahead of the contest without infringing on practice time.

Source: 49ers haven’t made decision on Aldon Smith’s option

Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News reported that it’s “very unlikely” the option on Aldon Smith's contract will be exercised. Earlier on Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN explained that the 49ers are “not expected” to extend the contract from a four-year deal to a five-year deal.

Per a league source with knowledge of the team’s thinking, however, the 49ers still haven’t made a decision. And they don’t have to make a decision until May 3, the deadline for picking up the option.

Report: Kaepernick, Niners contract talks on hold

The 49ers and quarterback Colin Kaepernick have been talking about a contract extension this offseason, but those discussions have reportedly been tabled for the time being.

The 49ers may not be inclined to extend linebacker Aldon Smith’s stay until 2015, but that doesn’t mean they’re done with him in 2014.

The team currently doesn’t plan to release Smith, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

Report: Ricardo Lockette told police “completely naked” woman wouldn’t leave

When it comes to the recent off-field situation involving 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, we don’t know much.

We now know a little bit more regarding the things that may have happened between the moment a woman was naked in a bed and the instant she woke up in a hospital bed with no intervening recollections.

Chris Culliver pleads not guilty to hit-and-run, brass knuckles charges

Shortly before 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested at LAX on Sunday, one of his defensive teammates enter a not guilty plea in a Santa Clara County courtroom.

The San Jose Mercury News reports that cornerback Chris Culliver pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor hit-and-run and felony possession of brass knuckles charges on Friday. His next court date is set for May 14, at which point a judge will decide if there’s enough evidence to warrant a trial.

No formal charges yet against Aldon Smith

On Sunday, 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested for claiming that he had a bomb while in an airport security line.

On Monday, formal charges won’t be filed.  And formal charges may not be filed for quite some time.

Aldon Smith released from custody after posting $20,000 bail

Aldon Smith’s Sunday trip to the airport in Los Angeles ended with a visit to jail instead of a flight to another city, but he was released before the night was out.

Smith was booked for being in violation of California Penal Code 148.1(a) after saying he had a bomb during an incident with airport security, which carries a possible punishment of one year in jail. For now, though, Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group reports that he’s out of custody after posting $20,000 bail.

Police: Too early to say what evidence shows in Kaepernick case

Miami police say it’s simply too soon to say what the evidence shows in the investigation of 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, 49ers receiver Quinton Patton and Seahawks receiver Ricardo Lockette.

“We have to examine evidence and wait for some tests to come back, including toxicology reports,” Police Chief Manuel Orosa told the Miami Herald. “We can present it to the state attorney and they can decide whether to continue. . . . It’s too early to determine what the evidence indicates.”

Kaepernick sounds off against TMZ report

Despite the criticism routinely heaped on TMZ, TMZ routinely isn’t wrong.  When it comes to TMZ’s initial report that 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is being investigated for sexual assault, TMZ was wrong.

And Kaepernick is letting TMZ hear about it.

Miami police call initial report on Kaepernick “out of context”

The Miami Police Department says the initial report that 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was being investigated for an alleged sexual assault was based on taking information from a police document out of context.

Miami Police spokesman Rene Pimental told the San Jose Mercury News that TMZ, which initially broke the story of Kaepernick being a subject of a police investigation, “took the report out of context.”

Incident report in Kaepernick case makes no specific allegations

The official incident report identifies 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, 49ers receiver Quinton Patton, and Seahawks receiver Ricardo Lockette as suspects.  But what they’re suspected of isn’t specified.

The incident report, a copy of which was obtained by CSN Bay Area, explains that an unidentified woman went to Lockette’s apartment in Miami.  Kaepernick and Patton were there.  She later “mixed some drinks for all of them and gave them shots.”  She claims the men “told her that in order to drink the shots she had to ‘hit’ the bong which contained marijuana.”
