Alex Boone expected to report to 49ers with reworked contract

49ers guard Alex Boone held himself out of the team’s offseason activities, training camp and the preseason in hopes of landing a new contract with the team.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, that holdout is about to come to an end. Schefter reports that Boone is expected to report to the 49ers in the next 24 hours.

49ers re-sign Lawrence Okoye and six others to practice squad

The 49ers have re-signed seven players they waived Saturday to the practice squad, the team said Sunday.

Second-year defensive lineman Lawrence Okoye, the star British discus thrower turned football player, is among those added to the Niners’ practice squad after being released Saturday.

Ray McDonald arrested for domestic violence

When it comes to the NFL’s new policy on domestic violence, many of the details won’t be known until a player or two (or more) end up caught in the gears of its application.

The first player to be caught in the gears of the application of the new domestic violence policy apparently will be 49ers defensive end Ray McDonald.

49ers Cut Adam Snyder, C.J. Spillman, and 14 others

The 49ers were running short on the offensive line anyway, with the holdout of guard Alex Boone.
But they’re even younger and thinner there now.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, the 49ers are cutting veteran offensive lineman Adam Snyder.

Colin Kaepernick still trying to figure Stevie Johnson out

New 49ers receiver Stevie Johnson hasn’t done much of anything this preseason, catching just two passes for 11 yards in three games. Colin Kaepernick says that’s because he can’t always find Johnson on the field.

According to Kaepernick, Johnson doesn’t always run routes the way Kaepernick is expecting, and that means Kaepernick doesn’t necessarily see Johnson get open.

Kaepernick to play in preseason finale

Maybe the fourth week of the preseason isn’t so worthless, after all.

In recent years, the final preseason game for each team has become a bench-clearing exercise aimed at helping the coaching staff and front office trim the roster from 75 to 53.  As the 49ers’ starting offense struggles to find a rhythm, starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick is expected to play in the preseason finale.

Niners place Lattimore on NFI, Bowman on PUP

The efforts of the 49ers to trim the roster down to 75 players included the shelving of a couple of highly-recognizable names for at least the first six weeks of the season.

Linebacker NaVorro Bowman has been placed on the reserve/PUP list and running back Marcus Lattimore has landed on reserve/NFI.  Both are recovering from torn ACLs; Bowman’s happened in the 2013 NFC title game and Lattimore’s occurred during the 2012 college football season.

49ers replacing turf at Levi’s Stadium

After being forced to move practice out of Levi’s Stadium due to poor turf conditions on Wednesday, the San Francisco 49ers have decided to replace the playing surface altogether ahead of Sunday’s preseason game with the San Diego Chargers.

The 49ers cut short a public practice open to fans at their brand new stadium on Wednesday after several players continued to slip on the loose surface.

Report: 49ers don’t want to trade holdout guard Alex Boone

Considering the 49ers either did or did not offer holdout guard Alex Boone a new deal that would pay him like a top-12 guard in the NFL, his situation is still very much in limbo.

Thus, teams are calling to ask about his availability.

But according to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, the 49ers are not interested in trading Boone.

Report: 49ers move practice after footing problems on Levi’s Stadium turf

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh reportedly stopped Wednesday’s practice at Levi’s Stadium and moved the workout to the club’s practice field after the club had footing problems on the stadium’s playing surface.

Kaepernick’s 2013 foot injury was more serious than he let on

For much of last season, Colin Kaepernick’s foot put him on the 49ers’ injury report. But Kaepernick always played through it, and he said at the time that it wasn’t a big deal, joking that it was just a hangnail. Now Kaepernick says it was much more serious than that.

In fact, Kaepernick told the Sacramento Bee that he actually suffered a chipped bone on his forefoot and a ruptured capsule in the ball of his foot during a Week Two game against the Seahawks. Kaepernick said that slowed him down for most of the rest of the season.

Fan dies of heart attack during 49ers’ Levi’s Stadium debut

There was news coming out of yesterday’s 49ers debut in Levi’s Stadium even worse than the score.

According to the Associated Press, a fan died after suffering a heart attack during the third quarter.

The Santa Clara Fire Department said the unnamed man received CPR and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two construction workers also died there during the construction of the massive new stadium last year.

Antoine Bethea goes down with a concussion

The 49ers didn’t play several of their projected defensive regulars in Sunday’s game against the Broncos and they saw one of the ones that did start leave early with a concussion.

Safety Antoine Bethea went down after being blocked by Broncos rookie wide receiver Cody Latimer on a play in the second quarter and going down to the turf hard. He was able to walk off the field under his own power and the 49ers later announced he was done for the day. He’ll be evaluated under the league’s concussion protocol and won’t return to full practices or games until he passes the necessary tests.

Patrick Willis fine with playing either inside linebacker spot

The 49ers expect to be without linebacker NaVorro Bowman for at least the first six weeks of the regular season as he continues to recover from the torn ACL he suffered in the NFC Championship Game.

They aren’t sure who will be taking his place in the lineup just yet, though. Michael Wilhoite and rookie Chris Borland are competing for the job and the result of their competition will determine how everyone lines up. If Wilhoite is the choice, Patrick Willis will switch to the “Mike” linebacker but he’ll remain as the “Jack” linebacker if Borland carries the day. Either outcome is fine with Willis.

Report: 49ers bracing for 6-8 game suspension for Aldon Smith

Now that 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith has met with Commissioner Roger Goodell, the next step entails the dropping of the hammer.  And for Smith, the so-called iron fist will hit a lot harder than it did with Ray Rice.

Via Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, the 49ers currently are bracing for Goodell to suspend Smith for six-to-eight games.

49ers give waive receiver Jon Baldwin

In 2011, the Chiefs spent a first-round pick on receiver Jonathan Baldwin, a talented but enigmatic prospect from Pitt.  After a pair of subpar seasons, the Chiefs shipped him to San Francisco for receiver A.J. Jenkins, a 2012 first-round bust.

On Sunday, the 49ers decided to move on from Baldwin.

Chris Culliver gets kicked out of practice

Wide receiver Anquan Boldin isn’t the only member of the 49ers whose exuberance has been a bit too much for coach Jim Harbaugh to bear in practice.

Boldin was asked to leave Friday’s practice after a scuffle with cornerback Darryl Morris and Sunday saw cornerback Chris Culliver get the same treatment. Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reports that Culliver rocked wide receiver David Reed with a shot near the sideline after a short completion.

Glenn Dorsey could be out for the year with torn biceps

Last year, Glenn Dorsey helped the 49ers tremendously by replacing Ian Williams after Williams was lost for the year with a broken ankle.  This year, someone will have to replace Dorsey.

Dorsey is expected miss the season with a torn biceps muscle.  The news was first reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Scuffle gets Anquan Boldin kicked out of practice

Jim Harbaugh confident in Marcus Lattimore

Although 49ers running back Marcus Lattimore is still unable to practice, 21 months after a horrific injury at South Carolina, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh says he’s confident Lattimore will contribute to the team.

“Marcus is going to be a part of this team, in some form or fashion,” Harbaugh said, via CSNBayArea.com. “I know what he’s got inside of him and I know what he’s capable of doing on the football field. We all do.”

Brandon Lloyd joins Michael Crabtree on sideline

When it rains at wide receiver for the 49ers, it pours.

Michael Crabtree will miss the next week or two of practice with an injury that the 49ers have not disclosed, although Josina Anderson of ESPN reports that it is a sore hamstring that the team wants to rest so Crabtree doesn’t do further damage that keeps him out of the lineup for an extended period.

Michael Crabtree could miss two weeks with undisclosed injury

Michael Crabtree missed Thursday’s practice and it looks like he will miss several more before he’s well enough to return to the field.

Coach Jim Harbaugh didn’t share what forced Crabtree out of practice, saying only that he is “working through something,” and that he could miss a week or two of training camp while healing up.
