NaVorro Bowman expected to be on field at April minicamp

Teams with new head coaches get to hold a minicamp for veteran players before the draft, which means the 49ers will be gathering for three days of on-field work later this month.

They expect to have linebacker Navorro Bowman taking part in the workouts when that minicamp gets underway. Bowman missed all of last season after suffering torn knee ligaments in the NFC Championship game loss to the Seahawks, but coach Jim Tomsula said Friday that the plan is for Bowman to be out there for some portion of the workout.

“When we can get on the field, Bow is going out on the field,” Tomsula said, via San Jose Mercury News. “I haven’t gotten into the specifics on how much. Obviously we’re not going to throw somebody out there and go 100 reps. My understanding is, yes, he’s moving great.”

Bowman’s return to health was going to be important for the 49ers under any circumstances, but it’s particularly vital with Patrick Willis and Chris Borland retiring this offseason.
